Programs conducted for the youth of the community provide healthful activities for the youngsters and give them the opportunity to develop healthy relationships with each other. During the year a wide variety of programs are offered. The following is a list of programs conducted during the year with a brief description of each.


  • Before & After School Program
The Watervliet Civic Center operates a Before & After School Program at the Watervliet Elementary School, on 25th St. This program is licensed, registered and inspected by the NYS Department of Children & Family Services and the NYS Health Department. The program is open to children in grades K - 6 who attend the Watervliet Elementary School. The program consists of gym/outdoor games, building activities, enrichment activities, homework assistance, board games, arts & crafts and more. The Before School Program is offered from 7:00 AM – 8:35 AM.  The After School Program is offered from 2:35 PM – 5:35 PM. A registration fee is required.

The Watervliet Civic Center offers a Before & After School Program for pre-k children. All children must be at least 4 years of age on or before 12/01/09 and must be enrolled in the Watervliet City School District Universal Pre-K Program.


  • Summer Recreation Program
The Summer Recreation Program is licensed, registered and inspected by the Albany County Health Department. This is an eight week program offered from the end of June to mid August, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This program is available to boys and girls ages 6-12. A registration fee is required. Family rates are available. Scholorships are available to children who are income eligible. Extended hours are available from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM for an additional fee.

The Summer Recreation Program offers a wide variety of supervised, constructive and wholesome recreational, social, educational and youth developmental programs and activities. Some of the programs offered are: gym games, outdoor games, swimming, arts and crafts, group games, musical games, relays, bicycle safety, self-esteem, weekly trips, special trips and more.


  • Basketball Leagues
We have three leagues for boys and one for girls. A ten game schedule is played in each league, with play beginning in early December.


  • Boys' Softball
Boys 7 to 14 years old participate and over 40 boys are placed on 4 teams. Games are played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.


  • Girls' Softball
This program is run as a clinic where fundamentals are taught. At the conclusion of the clinic, teams are formed and games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.


  • Flag Football
This is a fall program which consists of boys ages 7 to 15 playing football on Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school.


  • Indoor Soccer
Fundamental skills are stressed in a 2 week clinic where boys are then placed on 4 teams which play a six game schedule.


  • Whiffle Ball
This program is conducted for boys and girls throughout the year, during the months of September thru December and April thru June.


  • Arts & Crafts
Arts and Crafts are held thoughout the year and it is also a favorite Day Camp activity. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday.


  • Olympic Weight Training
Weight lifting classes for boys 14 and up are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings. This program is held from October thru December and boys are instructed in safety and proper training techniques.


  • Universal Weight Training
This universal apparatus enables the Civic Center to offer a more diversified weight program. This program is offered throughout the year for men and women, boys and girls.


  • Ceramics
Classes are held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for girls and boys from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Over 100 molds are available for use.


  • Floor Hockey
Leagues are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings for boys ages 12 - 14 and 15 - 18 respectively. The Pee Wee league is held on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 7 - 11.


  • Recreational Games
The Civic Center has 7 pool tables, 2 ping pong tables, 2 foosball tables and a bumper pool table. Tournaments are held throughout the year in 3 age groups: 7 - 11, 12 - 14 and 15 - 18.


  • VCR/DVD Movies
Movies are shown on Thursday and Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday afternoon.


  • Gym Games
These activities are offered to boys and girls ages 7 - 13, which include: Dodgeball, Kickball, Whiffleball, Musical Games and many others.


  • Board Games
Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, Bingo and many other games are offered to all ages.


  • Computer Room
The Watervliet Civic Center has a state of the art computer room, which is available to all members. All of the computers have internet access and members can work on their homework and school assignments, search the web and other areas of interest.

Most of the programs are offered each year at the Watervliet Civic Center. In addition to these programs, the Civic Center is a meeting place for various community organizations.

The Watervliet Civic Center conducts a wide variety of fundraising events throughout the entire year, some of the fundraising events are: annual golf tournament, annual bazaar, daily numberw drawing, dances, Friends of the Civic Center mailing, Adopt a Camper mailing and many more. .
