Programs conducted for the youth of the community provide healthful activities for the youngsters and give them the opportunity to develop healthy relationships with each other. During the year a wide variety of programs are offered. The following is a list of programs conducted during the year with a brief description of each.


Arts & Crafts

Arts and Crafts are held throughout the year and it is also a favorite Day Camp activity. Classes are held on Tuesday    and Thursday.



Our basketball court is available for drop-in games daily from September through May.  Throughout the year we’ll have free-throw competitions, 3 v. 3 & 5 v. 5 leagues, but most nights consist of pick up games for full and half-court games.



Classes are held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for girls and boys from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Over 100 molds are available for use.


Computer Room

It’s a little known fact that at times, our computer room is used for the express purpose of homework.  It does happen!  For real!  For the most part, our computer room boasts 11 PCs with high-speed internet access, ideal for YouTube viewings, sports recaps, school news and of course–PC gaming.  Fortnite anyone?


Gym Games

These activities are offered to boys and girls ages 7 – 13, which include: Dodgeball, Kickball, Whiffleball, Musical Games and many others.


Field Games

Over the course of the fall, we might take a group out on the field for an organized game. These games include flag football, soccer, softball and even “three pops/six grounders.”  While these games aren’t offered every day they are drop-in and friendly for all ages. These activities are offered to boys and girls ages 7-16.


Fitness Program

Our staff is available to help set goals, teach the fundamentals of fitness and proper equipment use to children 10 and older. This program is offered Monday and Tuesday evenings from September through May.  We encourage participants to pursue physical activity, whether competitive or individually, to maintain a healthy lifestyle.


Nutrition Program

Our Nutrition Program is held Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Children 10 and older are welcome to join us to learn healthy recipes, kitchen safety and cooking techniques from September through May.  More than just a “make & eat” program; kids are challenged to understand the various importance of certain foods.


Olympic and Universal Weight Training

The  Civic Center Gym has been renovated with a variety of modern equipment and weights thanks to Vent Fitness. Free weights (14 yrs & up) and cardio machines (12 yrs & up).  Guided instruction is available on Mon. and Tues. evenings.


Recreational Games

The Civic Center has 7 pool tables, 2 ping pong tables, 2 foosball tables, and a bumper pool table, Tournaments are held throughout the year in 3 age groups: 7 – 11, 12 – 14 and 15 – 18. We also have a variety of board, table and card games.



DVD Movies

Movies are shown on Thursday and Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday afternoon.



Homework Help

Our homework helper is available in the computer room Monday through Thursday evenings from 6pm until 8pm.


Most of the programs are offered each year at the Watervliet Civic Center. In addition to these programs, the Civic Center is a meeting place for various community organizations.
