Program News & Information

Food Is Fuel Program

In collaboration with the Watervliet City School District, the Watervliet Civic Center has been distributing food to 105 children each week.; The children take the food home on Friday to ensure they have healthy choices for over the weekend. Thank you to Hannaford for donating and a generous grant from United Way of the Capital District which allows us to provide this service.

The Civ Youth Recreation Program

The evening Youth Recreation Program for youth 10-18 is slated to start back up roughly at the end of September 2019.  Our start date is a “loose date” this year as we have some construction and improvements being made to our kitchen area and our ceramics room.

Nutrition Program:

Held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, our nutrition program teaches youth how to make healthy snacks and elements of basic nutrition.  We focus on safety in the kitchen, preventing food contamination and hand washing–lots of hand washing.

Physical Fitness Program

Our instructors and aides encourage kids to get moving; focusing on flexibility, agility and developing strength safely.

Homework Help

(It’s actually popular!)  Monday through Thursday youth can get assistance with their homework, research topics for school in our computer lab and print reports if needed.

Classes are 8:30AM – 9:30 AM on Saturday mornings as well as 5:00PM-6:00PM on Tuesday.
